Scratching Log - Honoring Fan Art Contest Artists - Alyssa Briggs

By rath8325 - Posted on 14 September 2011

Sheila and I are celebrating the return of the Scratching Log blog by interviewing the recent Facebook Ratha Fan Art Contest participants and featuring their work. We agree that everyone who submitted art is a winner, and we'd like to recognize as many artists as possible.

Next up on the sunning rock, for the light of recognition is teenaged, talented Alyssa Briggs with her inspiring tribute to Ratha and Bonechewer's love for each other. It is simple, yet tender and moving. Thank you, Alyssa, and I am honored to inspire you!

Your name: Alyssa Briggs

Your age: 14

Title of your entry: My Home is Wherever You Are

What media did you use for this artwork? Traditional Media: Pencil, Paper,
Colored Pencils, Gel Pen

Tell us a little about your process for creating this work. N/A

What inspired the work, and/or what were you trying to convey?

At first I wanted to do the scene where Ratha has been with the unnamed for a while and the words come slow to her then I decided to do more of a conceptual art
of her being of the named and Bonechewer of the unnamed. Then I thought of
how much I love Bonechewer and how sad I was at the end of the first book
and decided I should do a sort of tribute to their love. I ended up doing
Ratha before the cubs were born after they had come back from the Unnamed
raids when they were (in my opinion) happiest.

Is there anything else you'd like to tell us about the entry? No

When did you first read the Named books, and how did you discover them?

I found the Named books earlier this year when I was on Amazon. I was looking
at other books and Ratha's Creature came up under the suggestions. After I
looked into it some I decided I would give it a try even though I wasn't
really into cats and I loved them. I read them on the way home from vacation
and I mean I read the first one straight through on the way home in 2 days.
I cried both days at one point in the book and am still in love with the
series and reading the last book currently.

What's your favorite book in the Named series?
I cant say yet, but as of now it has to be the first Ratha's Creature, but I love them all so much ^^ Ratha and Thistle-Chaser has a very memorable end as does Ratha's Challenge. I cant wait to see what all Ratha's Courage has in store for me!

Coffee or hot chocolate? Hot Chocolate

Ereader or print? Print

Firekeeper or Herder? Herder or Hunter

Thakur or Bonechewer? Err, you make me pick...Bonechewer (but I love them
both)

Ratha or Thistle-Chaser? Ratha (but Thistle amazes me in her own ways)

Do you have a link where people can view more of your artwork? Yes, I am on
deviantArt as WalkerofTwoTrails http://walkeroftwotrails.deviantart.com/

Thank you so much I really love the idea of this and cant wait to see what
some of the other contestants have to say!

Well, you will have a chance to read what they have to say.  So far we have 9 responses, and there will probably be more.

I'm glad you are enjoying Courage.  I'll be interested to hear what you think of it, either here or at the Ratha Fan Page on FB.  I try to listen to readers, since you have taught me a lot.  /CB
